I’ve upvoted stuff with kinks I don’t like because it was tagged to make it clear which kinks it had, and I appreciated the heads-up.

Aww, c'mon, I search by kudos to find the good shit.

The marginal impact of a single kudos is pretty low

And up voting stuff for good tagging is still probably helpful, since well-tagged fics are probably likely to be better written as well

Agreed.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-25 01:07 am (UTC)(link)
All the more reason to pad someone's stats. :D

Seriously, as someone who writes a lot of kinks, thanks!

Some people will not leave kudos unanon on a kinky story. I see the pageviews, guys, and I don't think these stories are written poorly compared to the fluff. You're just embarrassed lol.

RA

I have an account specifically for the ~spicy~ stories lol but I also leave kudos when I'm not signed in if I really REALLY liked the story. That said, if I read a story in the non spicy account, I'm more reluctant to leave a kudos (depending on how dirty the story is lol).

I kudo for my followers/people I follow on Tumblr, for most people who write my ships (with one of them, I tend to not kudo people who write the ship as abusive because that in my opinion is OOC, but otherwise I'll kudo most fics), for kinks I like that don't get written much, and for anything I read and even remotely enjoy.

I do this, but just for my friends when they write something I don't want to read

I do this, too. But I always feel guilty and end up reading it anyway.

I think that's awesome. Good on you.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-25 05:40 am (UTC)(link)
That's a very nice thing you do! As a rare pair ficcer, I appreciate it. I should start doing this too. :)

(Anonymous) 2021-03-25 02:14 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm going to be a contrarian here and say that (1) as someone who writes rare pairs and rarer kinks, this sucks. I want kudos from people who enjoyed my fic, not from people who didn't even bother to fucking read it; and also (2) you're giving other people a mistaken impression of the quality of the fic, too.

In other words, fuck you and your pity kudos.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-25 03:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Contrarian or just a dick?

(Anonymous) 2021-03-25 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)
NAYRT Their point is pretty valid. I too like my feedback to be genuine and not somebody's idea of pity.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-25 05:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Their point is, yes, assuming that it is indeed pity that is being cited as the reason for giving kudos. But some people aren’t thinking like that; kudos can be encouragement for a variety of things, not just the quality of a fic. I know plenty of people who give kudos just because a fic features their favorite pairing, not because they thought the fic was written well. Having a lot or a little kudos sometimes isn’t a good indicator if the public genuinely enjoyed the work in question.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-25 07:46 pm (UTC)(link)
But secret author never said anything about pity, they said they like to see well-tagged fics and rare pairs. If a person likes something, they are well in their rights to give a kudos for that.
