I think I get where you're coming from - it feels like quite a lot of western media that's set in any sort of fantasy-Asiatic setting gets the 'cultural mashup' treatment, possibly at least in part so the creators don't need to worry about offending one market versus another, possibly just to be lazy. I tend to enjoy these setting, but like... I'd probably enjoy something set really solidly mid-16th-century Japan but there's dragons! too, or 8th century China, or 1st century Vietnam, or any number of other possibilities too.
