This. Still having feelings for someone you loved and lost, in whatever capacity, is normal and tragic, if, as you said, a bit unhealthy after a time.

Treating that someone's innocent orphaned child like shit because of those feelings is just asshole behavior.

I don't think he treated Harry like shit because of his feelings for Lily. He treated Harry like shit because of his feelings towards James, and they hated each other long before either of them started looking at Lily in a romantic context. Pretty much all the shit he heaps on Harry is either implicitly or explicitly because he sees James when he looks at him and can't get past that to see that even if he resembles his father in appearance, as a person Harry's a lot more like his mother.

Still asshole behavior, but asshole who can't let go of a childhood grudge.

I mean, given how badly James and the Marauders bullied Snape I think it might go a bit beyond 'childhood grudge' into 'childhood trauma'.
