Seimei/Qing Ming hasn't changed that much, though I would say he's even more sly in the novels but the big change is Hiromasa/Bo Ya. Hiromasa, while generally righteous as well, is much more easygoing in the novels. He's often infatuated with a new lady and is basically the "straight man" representing a more worldly /straight laced POV compared to Seimei's mystical trickstery side. They have a bit of a Holmes/Watson dynamic in general.
In the Japanese movies, Hiromasa is also a bit of a comic relief on occasion.
