I'm just shocked at how often midriff baring shirts show up in media when I very rarely ever see anyone wearing them. Do women really wear these that often? I honestly think I've only seen them a couple times in real life.

I don't wear them cut right up under my breasts but I have a few shirts that ride above my waistline.

I just figured it was an American thing and that America was warm enough for that.

I honestly haven't seen it. Doesn't mean it doesn't happen. And since it was more frequent in 80s/90s shows, maybe it was more frequent in real life then too. I was overseas then in a school with a strict dress code. But I'm just saying I don't see people with midriff bearing shirts these days. Shirts that are just touching their pants so when they raise their arms skin shows, yes. But not shorter than that.

Ha, yeah, in my neck of the woods here in Iowa, there's certain times of year when it'd be far too cold to wear stuff like that :p.

I've never worn stuff like that, but that's just 'cause it's not really my style and I don't think I could pull off those looks as well as other girls can.

fellow midwesterner, yep, despite the "wearing shorts when it's 50" phenomenon which is totally real, we don't even wear midriff-baring shirts in July, unless you're 20, thin, and deliberately trying to be seen on whatever passes for a beachfront around here. I've only ever seen them around the college campus during the hottest part of summer, it's just not a thing.

I blame California.

Well, some of America is warm enough, and some of America is warm enough *some* of the time.

My daughter wore/wears tops like that. They're cute and nice in summer. Not allowed in school, though, ever.

They seem to cycle in and out of fashion. I was clothes shopping with my niece the other day and a couple of the shirts were crop tops.

My schoolmates wore them, but that was 15 years ago and also not in the US.
