Re: Writing sci-fi question

Sure. Especially if people have basically put aside borders and wars and racial tensions..... Um. But people have a hard time with that. SO - yes, most will be, and most won't know or care about where they came from or what their race is, particularly if humanity has moved out into space en masse. *Really* particularly if they're facing some kind of aggression from some outside force.

And you could describe them in a couple of ways. You could say 'X had a full-lipped mouth and a thick knot of glossy braids, and cosmetically-enhanced, bright-blue eyes that tilted up at the corners', subtly putting people in mind of someone with Black and Asian ancestors.

Or you could assume most people would still 'know' about races and whatnot and the POV character could say something like 'X had the high, thin nose and long neck of their Ethiopian great-grandmother, and the epicanthic fold and rule-straight, glossy black hair of their Vietnamese father'.

Really how you want your POV character to think about it, you know?

Those are all excellent ideas, thanks! To be honest it hasn't really crossed my main characters mind lol so I guess I'll just keep on leaving it as vague.

There are still messy human politics though because, well, plot lol.

Heeee!
Sometimes, we can just go along ignoring politics until they smack us in the face.

Good luck!
