I mean....he looks like philip with a spencers twist so fucking much i don't understand where any of this is coming from.

anyway I disagree that historically the english monarchy cared about actual bastardy enough to kick someone off the throne, they just cared about it being a good excuse to kick someone off the throne, which isn't the same thing imo. the tudors alone used that bullshit to arrange succession more than any actual belief that it mattered.

Agreed. People are just mean and a bit spiteful, and I imagine him being redheaded didn't help, either.

Have to disagree re: bastardy, though. It's one thing to say that being a bastard wasn't that big of an obstacle to the crown back in the Middle Ages (I'd agree with that!), but today's royals aren't like that. No bastard claimant is going to sail a fleet of invading ships from France to seize the throne by might vs. right. The royals now certainly feel like their position isn't anywhere near as powerful or certain as their way-back ancestors and their behavior has been modified accordingly - that's why the Queen stresses a life of service to the people and they deliberately eschew being political. That's why they still tend to err on the side of socially conservative choices, such as choosing a virginal young bride for Charles instead of Camilla, who was clearly a better match for him personally.

People forget that Elizabeth is Queen because the Parliament had a big old constitutional crisis over the previous American to marry into the Family.

Parliament could do so again if they decide the Family should be completely irrelevant as opposed to mostly irrelevant but ceremonially useful. Ultimately it's Parliament who decides who they're going to sit for, and they've historically used that power multiple times.

Seriously, like even as a kid, he looked a lot like Philip did when he was young, just with the Spencer coloring. Even the picture that OP used, he looks JUST like Philip.

People latched on to the red hair, but Diana's sister Sarah and their brother Charles both have red hair, and there's obviously a recessive red hair gene in the Windsors since both Harry and Beatrice are redheads.

People just love the gossip and want things to be "juicy". Everybody claims to be above the tabloids, but somehow we all remember the gossip that the tabloids perpetuated about Harry's father not being Charles and what not.

nayrt - But to be fair, that's the whole point of really juicy gossip, it spreads like wildfire and you don't have to seek it out yourself to hear it. For example, I only watched Game of Thrones for less than two seasons, but I still know how it ends. To avoid knowing about royal gossip, it wouldn't be enough to not read tabloids, you'd have to isolate yourself from all the other sources that echo the same gossip.
