Relax. It's a spin off series from the kink meme. I doubt anyone's going to take something written for fun for canon, characterization and events considered.

Considering how little fanwork we've got got in the fandom, especially outside the kinkmeme, AND how people are reacting to it (with unending praises and 'lets get together and write more!!'), it makes me worry.

I would rather have people respond that way to IC things.

And from my experience in other fandoms, while people might not take fics as canon, they certainly take them as "the best way to write the character".

I agree with you on every count here. I just wanted to point out at the bigger picture where there is a good number of fics on the kink meme lacking any semblance of ICness as it is. Your example is just the latest offender, sadly. I would love to read well written fics rather than more stuff with crazy rapist Lockon and Allelujah who's incurably in love with his own alter ego, but sadly, fanon has started to take over a good while ago.

I'm just hoping that the good writers will set a better example.

Yeah. I didn't mention those, because they aren't as prolific. Hell, those people aren't generally very good writers at all. These guys ARE good writers, and good writing can go a long way towards disguising OOC.

Some of the entries for the holiday fic exchange there blew me away. I really hope they reveal soon so I can start ~~stalking~~ appreciating my new favorite fandom authors.

Do you have any favourites? I've only read a handful, and am sort of shitty at just sitting down to read random entries instead of ones that get recced.

The Dream of a Thousand Paper Cranes (http://mechaphiles.nadleeh.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=361) (Tieria-centric). It's long, and quite dark, and despite the exposition, is not an AU. It has a lot of cyberpunk elements, but the writer is skilled and has a gripping way with storytelling. I think it's supposed to take place between the two seasons.

Closed Position (http://mechaphiles.nadleeh.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=355). An interesting take on Lyle, and while it wavers in some places, it has some really solid writing.

Four of a Kind (http://mechaphiles.nadleeh.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=354). This is an entertaining read if you're into something lighthearted. It also gets point for showing Celestial Being from Lyle's point of view as an outsider. Also, James Bond spoofs.

Words of Praise (http://mechaphiles.nadleeh.org/forum/viewtopic.php?f=51&t=333). One of the few Allelujah and Hallelujah fics that doesn't pair them and doesn't make me want to tear my hair out.

The rest of the archive ranges from fics that are a bit too old by season 2's time, and it doesn't update that often. However, wading through fanfiction.net has gotten me this gem (http://www.fanfiction.net/u/1675369/College_Fool) of a writer, if you're into shorter stuff and AUs. I highly recommend "Allelujah's Retrieval Service" in his drabble anthology.
