That's actually part of why I got out of the pairing, but Katara in a relationship works for me a lot more than Aang. (Also, at the end of the show, she's 15 and Aang's 13. 13 still really feels too young to me, though.) She's still child-like sometimes, when she has a chance to be, but she's had to become a mini-adult, essentially. Aang, despite the pressure, really hasn't, and is a lot less emotionally mature than she is, at least in my opinion. Still, as I said, I'd prefer no romance at all.

For my part, I find that the fact that Katara's been forced into being a mini-adult only means that she's that much farther away from actually having an adult relationship.

I do see where you're coming from, though. Myself, I'm totally cool with Aang/Katara as a cute-preteen-crush best-friends-forever thing that will become a great romantic relationship when they're old enough, and I really like it that way, but I think it really could have done with dialing back the heavy romance in S3.
