This, exactly! The only problem I have with "fat cosplayers" is when they make their costumes too small/cut them wrong, so it looks bad! Newsflash -- make your costume too small and even if you're 60 pounds, you'll still look bad!

I think one of the problems is that so many people these days won't take accurate measurements of themselves. They cinch the tape so tight to try to get a small one that they wind up with a way-too-small costume. And then there's the fact that not a lot of people know how to cut out patterns/sew them together properly.

True. It takes skill and honest body measurements to really make the costume come alive. I have two friends who aren't all that thin, but they are wonderful at sewing and have successfully managed to pull off thinner characters with very good feedback.

I can relate on that one. I know a girl who is a little heavier, but she's pulled off some gorgeous costumes of characters that are actually very thin, but because she had someone who was a professional costume-maker do the outfits for her, she looked absolutely smashing. Of course, part of it as well is acting the part. And oh my, she did that very well~

Agreed hardcore! The trick is to look like a character and act like them, not look like a slut or a bum.
