I'm starting to feel the same way and I think it's in reaction to the hell actors/actresses go through to get jacked.

I didn't mind comic book characters with 8-packs or hyper defined muscles back in the day. But now that I know actual human beings have to starve/dehydrate themselves for days before shirtless scenes it's not as fun. Let my favs eat and drink! Don't make me worry that Bruce Wayne is hours away from kidney failure or something, jesus.

I agree. Although with Wonder Woman, I just wish they'd cast her as actually muscular woman who look like the character and not model-figure, stick thin women. Actually, that goes for other warrior-women roles. Please give us women who look like they can actually do what they are doing.

Buffy is an exception because the whole point was having the stereotypical blond girl being able to do those things because of superpowers. But it is every single time there is a female action character, and it gets really old really fast. There are women who can do action things. They exist. They just don't look like a model.

Wasn't Gal Gadot actually in the army though?

At one point, yes. Not doing the sorts of things Wonder Woman does. And in the comics Wonder Woman specifically has a more muscular build. Gal Gadot would be good for quite a lot of female superheroes, but not Wonder Woman.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 06:38 am (UTC)(link)
She did actually put on muscle for Wonder Woman, but she was starting at very skinny. Which would be fine, if it wasn't always the case for every female superhero.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 12:24 am (UTC)(link)
Yes but she was in public relations or somesuch, not soldiering around with a gun.

I wish they would have cast Wonder Woman as the Amazon. Someone like Gwendoline Christie is more of the right body type.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-28 09:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I would love to have characters who like more like me, so, absolutely

(Anonymous) 2021-03-28 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I always feel mixed on this - on one hand it's great to get more representation and I agree especially if it makes sense for the character...
on the other hand, my many many years on Deviantart has made me knee-jerk wary of weight-gain fan art thanks to all the kink-fan artists.

Oh lord don't remind me

Secret maker here (but not the maker of this secret)

(Anonymous) 2021-03-28 09:49 pm (UTC)(link)
There's been some confusion about comment secret threads and another secret maker made and submitted some secrets that I'd already made - but in this case, hadn't submitted yet. Since Secret Maker #2's appeared first, I won't submit the one I made, but here it is in case OP wants to see it:

Double the fun, OP!

OMG, I feel so lucky. Yours is so adorable and I tracked down that fanart right away. Thank you!

(Anonymous) 2021-03-28 10:57 pm (UTC)(link)
same, I mean, it's my body type so I do wish there was more of it! It would just be more fun if we could get more girl characters variety to body type, especially when it makes more sense!

(Anonymous) 2021-03-28 11:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I have major body issues so I hate it. Seeing this just makes me feel bloated and sluggish and uncomfortable in my own skin. Which is ridiculous and I know it but it seems to be a powerful DNW reaction beyond my control.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 12:18 am (UTC)(link)
Don't worry, it's just the high-waisted jeans making her look that way. :P

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
I love characters redos with more realistic bodies. No matter how hard most of us exercise or diet we can't reach those unrealistic goals. We need heroes of all sizes.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Wait how does chubby wonder woman make sense though? I'm not hating on more chubby fanart, there needs to be more variety in womens body sizes and figures in shows/movies, I'm just confused how that would make sense in wonderwomans case.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 04:19 am (UTC)(link)
The image wasn't actually chosen by the person who thought up the secret. It's from a "secrets you don't want to make" thread.

But, to be fair, I'd argue that chubby Wonder Woman makes just as much sense as skinny Wonder Woman.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Oohh that makes more sense. I agree that Skinny wonderwoman and chubby wonderwoman don't make much sense especially when you see the rest of the Amazons. I wish people would cast more muscular/athletic lead women in action movies because it would be more believable. You never see small skinny men kicking multiple enemies in hand to hand combat outside superpowers so why wouldn't it be the same for women.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 03:56 am (UTC)(link)
I just want more variety. Take a look at Olympic athletes for the huge variety in top-class athlete bodies! A distance runner looks nothing like a swimmer who looks nothing like a gymnast who looks nothing like a weightlifter, but they're all at absolute peak performance.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
Yes, absolutely, all of this

(Anonymous) 2021-03-29 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
I really liked early issues of the comic Top Ten for variety in body types. It follows a police precinct in a city where everyone has some superpower, and their body types generally reflect their personality and abilities - ones with more investigative skills or who don’t have to do much physically to use their abilities aren’t super-buff or even necessarily fit.

One of my favorite designs was Irma Geddon, who wears heavy armor with literal missiles and ranged guns, and she’s the main caretaker of her family. She’s padded muscle with laugh and worry lines and a hasty updo in early issues.
