Slight disagreement, OP. Canon after Civil War has given little weight to Steve & Bucky's relationship.
I am enjoying Sam's story in TFATWS. I'm also enjoying Bucky's. Marvel is giving us a lot of new and excellent material.

Oh man, that is an unfortunate acronym. lol

But yes, agreed.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
Yeah, I'm good with pretty minimal Steve in the episodes. As you say, the Bucky-Steve dynamic has been kind of downplayed in most of the MCU and the TV show isn't the time to ramp it up.

I'm really hoping for some good development of Sam & Bucky. There's lots of potential there.

I'm just here for Falcon and the Winter Soldier. If Steve is mentioned or even possibly has a cameo/flashback, that's fine. But I don't want Steve coming back to kick the new symbol's ass, even if it looks like he might eventually deserve such a thing.

Besides, I once made a secret about wanting these two to bro down. I am content at this point in time. I don't even care if it gets a little shippy.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
I wouldn't want Steve to come back to do that because it seems to defeat the entire premise of the show right there in its name. Steve gave up the shield, it's not up to him to yoink it back from a (probably) undeserving asshole.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 04:43 am (UTC)(link)
Oh, I'm aware. I should've inserted a "or something" because I just meant it generally.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 03:59 am (UTC)(link)
I love Steve...and I totally agree with you. This is Bucky and Sam's story.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 04:16 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just mad they had Sam give up the shield. That ruined it for me.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 04:40 am (UTC)(link)
I think you're missing the point that Sam demanded his own agency here. It was his decision and he had his reasons.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 05:39 am (UTC)(link)
Google Doylist and Watsonian, would you?

'they' are presumably the real-world marvel execs and writers. 'sam' is not a person with any agency in their decisions. Better that they write the character a story with agency than without it, but they could just as easily have written a story where he chose to keep the shield in spite of resistance from various quarters. You're the one missing the point.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 05:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Yeah, nice try. That's not what this character is. But good luck being mad over the plot of the show.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 04:51 am (UTC)(link)
I think he's going to take it back by the end of the series, and I think they're exploring really smartly *why* Sam felt like he couldn't keep it at the time.

Yes, this. And as much as some of the fanboys hate it - race plays into this. That and Sam (in a very Steve way) doesn't feel like he can be a superhero if he can't even help his sister. They're propping up this fake cap that looks the part, calls Steve "like a brother", while the two people who were actually that close to Steve are sidelined.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 05:09 am (UTC)(link)
I'm just glad these two characters are getting more fleshed out. I always felt like the Falcon/Sam was always kinda sidelined, and Bucky was just..."let's use his trauma"/inspiration or motivation for Steve. So good for them.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 07:00 am (UTC)(link)
I have no interest in Steve. He fucked off to the past and I wish he had stayed there. Also, they never adequately explained how he ended up with a shield anyway. Did he steal it from his own frozen, younger body? Ugh.

(Anonymous) 2021-03-30 10:53 am (UTC)(link)
He took his shield with him when he travelled back in time I think.

Damnit, of course this secret comes up when i was already in bed for the post.
*sigh*
Oh well.

Steve is gone and it is what it is. I have major disagreements with how they wrote he and Bucky's relationship in canon (basically because no homo and getting too invested in Steve/Peggy which has so many issues and problems that I just...cannot). I agree with zero of it.

But I am happy to have a show with Bucky and Sam, and don't care that Steve is only mentioned, not a big part of it (CE is done with Marvel, he was never gonna come back, anyway, wth, people).

I just don't like the coerced therapy and I kinda feel like Bucky's trauma is being...downplayed? Like everybody (in show) wants him to be all happy bouncy heroic normal *right now please*.

And the people whining about Sam's storyline and the VERY REAL issues of being denied financial assistance and being harassed by the cops can go jump in a fucking pit. Jayzus. I like that second episode, Sam and Bucky are starting to get each other a little more.

Chris Evans is done. Cap got as close to a happy ending as he can with the stipulation that he can never be on screen again. We have to accept this and move on.

Sam's shit is absolutely amazing and I love it. He better be Cap by the end though, I'm super serious about that.
