118. Ugh, yeah that was pretty disturbing. The sequel where the bird has to get a shot, however, fucking scarred me for life. Ahhh Disney Nightmare Fuel...

144. Ugh, yes, I guess every Oscar season has to have the obligatory Holocaust movie. I do wonder if over time the Holocaust will cease to be a horrific tragedy in people's minds and more just a backdrop for an Oscar-worthy drama.

It's hard to explain, but here's a section of a Savage Love where he addresses why some men have a cuckold fetish, and while he doesn't mention the Nazi fetish, he does a good job explaining why some people eroticize fear-

Personally, I have always been emotionally detached from the events in the holocaust (though the same goes for 99% of history in general). I've seen a variety of holocaust related films, as well as read all about it as many have-- and it wasn't until the movie in 144's OP that I finally felt some sort of emotional connection to what happened during the holocaust.

While I'm a perfect example of media having numbed my ability to feel upset or disgusted by horrific things, we shouldn't forget that there is also, rarely, something to be gained from films like this.

A thousand movies made just for money/awards is worth sifting through if only to find one gem.

Oh I know, it's not like there's no possibility of being moved by a film about the Holocaust, and truth be told I haven't actually seen the movie in question, I'm just concerned about the larger trend of Obligatory Oscar Season Holocaust Movie. I work at an art house movie theater so amongst us cynical film school assholes it's just something we notice (along with Obligatory Oscar Period Piece).
