LOL. See, I swear, I'd almost think of it the other way around. With simple testosterone, you've just got, y'know...giant robots fighting. When we jump in the game, there's shipping and mpreg, and indepth fic on the (literal) mechanics of robo-sex and...
On the other hand, there's usually a good level of hilarity and sweet sweet art.

Maybe it's because I'm still on the periphery of the fandom, but it doesn't seem like it's as wanky as all that. I'm probably missing something though (for pity's sake, I was "in" DW fandom for over a year before I realised that shipping Doctor/Rose was wanky).

I think it's because shipping and surprise botsex carries with it an aspect of absurdity that we don't take that seriously. Fanboys, on the other hand, are VERY serious about their fandom.
