104 - Jeez, seriously, I wish people would realize this. I would live to go to Japan, and maybe even do a year's stay there. But live forever? See, I don't know, because I've never been there. Culture shock is a bitch - I found that out going to the UK. I'd love to live in the UK forever, but I've actually been there and I really loved it. How anyone can think they want to live somewhere they've never been is beyond me.

Too true. I have this pet peeve about people who have never been to Japan a day in their lives talking about how it's the greatest country in the world. How they're "odd" and not accepted in Western society, as though it's all going to be sunshine and rainbows on the other side of the ocean.

Agreed. I've been there, and while I love it, I would NOT want to live there for an extended period of time. And really, if they're not accepted in Western society, they'll be even LESS so in Japan.

From what I understand about it, Japan isn't exactly going to be like "OH WE LOVE YOU AMERICAN PERSON YOU FIT IN MUCH BETTER HERE *accepts unconditionally*. Jesus Christ. They weren't like that in the UK, either. Yes, some people are enamored with foreigners, but really now. Really.

I went through a phase when I was fifteen, too, where I thought "omg Japan~~~~" but I mean, I was a dumb kid and I grew out of it. I also started, you know, learning the language and studying the culture. I would still love to visit, as I said, but Japan is not the do-all, end-all of the whole universe.
