Dream Pet/Pet Preference?

(Anonymous) 2021-04-06 11:51 pm (UTC)(link)
Do you prefer cats, dogs or another kind of household pet? and if you don't have a pet, what would your dream pet be?

I would Like a cat and a dog in the future, but would probably get a cat first.

Cat, and then turtle / tortoise but those seem less practical

I have a cat now, and she's my ideal girl. I adore her so much. We are very bonded. We saved each other. We just get each other. I wouldn't want anyone but her.

Someday my dream is to have 2 cats, 2 dogs, a snake, and a fish tank. But right now I"m 100% content.

I'll be honest, I have cats and I am not a cat person at all. But they were on their last days at the pound so now I have cats.

I can't wait to get a dog. Preferably medium sized, terrier mix. But I have to wait until I don't have cats.

If I could ever get over my fears of posting un-anon, everyone would already know the answer to this, because I am the anon who CONSTANTLY talks about my bunnies. And bunnies in general, real or fictional.

I accidentally wound up with a frog for a few years (she just showed up in my living room in the middle of the night and I was like "...okay, sure, you can live here") and that was awesome and I'd like to have another one someday, but I don't think a frog I specifically set out to acquire would be as special as one who I think decided to tag along in my hoodie after a walk in the woods.

If we're going to go into complete fantasy with dream pets, I want a flying horse. That talks.

I like ferrets but don't intend to own any pet other than my cat honestly. I love him the most.

I used to have rats and I loved them so much. I know they've got a bad reputation because of wild rats, especially in cities, but as pets, they're clean (at least the females) and smart and can be very sweet.

I'm hoping to have rats again in the future. Or maybe a ferret, although they're technically illegal to keep where I live right now.

Sliding into livestock territory, I'd just love to have a huge enclosed coop (and a run or two) to safely keep a few species of birds. Turkey and quail in particular, gosh they're wonderful, but SPACE is an issue, particularly with the former.

I prefer cats to dogs because most dogs need people around way more than cats do, but I love both. I'm just not comfortable leaving a dog alone for the twelve+ hours a day I'm at or commuting to or from work. Plus my cat seems to hate dogs (and other cats!) But if I ever get another dog, it'll most likely be when I retire, if I live that long. My cat loves being petted and sitting/sleeping on me, and greets me at the door when I get home.

I also keep hens, but they mostly just need a clean safe place to sleep, a fenced space to run around and dustbathe in during the day, and food, water, and dried mealworms (if they could talk, mealworms would be the first thing on the list!)

They don't mind me sitting in the run with a book and will eat out of my hands, but they don't like being petted or anything. But I have one crippled one who I feed by hand twice a day, and she's definitely closer to being a cuddly pet than the others.

If I ever get my MLIS, my plan is to reward myself with dwarf milch goats; they're legal here provided you have two to keep each other company and get them dehorned (as babies, usually) and males neutered--intact males piss on themselves during rut.

My ridiculous dream lotto win pets would be a horse or two and maybe some rescue parrots alongside cats, dogs, chickens, and goats, plus funding a rooster and maybe wether (neutered male) goat sanctuary for people who have accidental pet roosters they can't keep but don't want to see eaten or used for cockfighting, or wethers that would otherwise be food. Excess male livestock is eaten, but I'm not the only suburban bleeding heart vegetarian who can't legally keep roosters but was heartbroken when I couldn't find a safe home for an accident (sexing baby chickens is an inexact science, RIP Beetlejuice my poor rooster.)

My only exists in dreams and fiction pet would be a dragon that could subsist on a mostly vegetarian diet and the occasional rat or mouse. I've had a pet rat and pet mice and they're very cute, but the wild ones that eat my garden, chew holes in my walls, and even eat stuff out of my pantry are less so.

A pet that requires little sensory scatological or urinary care that is already somewhat domesticated as a species, which is why i dont have pets

hmm, I thought you had to clean the litter box, and that self-cleaning boxes aren't really good for cats? Also, that cats pee psychologically, so if upset or untrained they will pee outside the box? that sounds like sensory urinary and scatological care to me.

You're absolutely right. Do not get a cat believing you won't have to deal with its body wastes. Trust me on this.

There are parts of healthy cats' lives where they mostly take care of that on their own (except for the puke), but living things don't stay healthy forever.

If you want a pet and you can't stand dealing with body wastes, get a plant. Or maybe a pet rock.
