Re: Dead dove question

That... seems to be deeply misunderstanding the whole DD:DNE trope.

Like, the punchline to the original scene is "I don't know what I expected." The dead dove was a dove that was dead. It wasn't a dove that was slowly tortured to death and then left to rot in the sun for a few days before being put into the bag and refrigerated.

The point of the entire thing is that you were told there were bad things here, so don't be surprised when the things are bad. Only using it to describe bad things that are far, far worse than what you would have expected based on being told that the things were bad is not surprising, given the attitudes of fandom, but definitely disappointing.

Actually, you are misunderstanding the tag. Look upthread, there's an anon who actually links to the place where the term was coined. This isn't that hard.

DA

The term comes from a TV show. It's a widely circulated gif for years. Some random Tumblr user's theory about it is NOT the origin of the term, it's just one person's opinion.

AYRT is right, though. Dark, potentially upsetting contents already have their specific tags, and if they are treated as the reader would expect them to be treated (i.e. as dark, upsetting contents) there is no need for further elaboration. There's no "I don't know what I expected there".

No, they're not right. It literally means "Pay attention to the tags and warnings". "There will be no moralizing or social commentary, and this won't play out in a realistic way for the sake of kink" is another thing DD:DNE CAN mean, but it's not any more correct than the obvious "Don't ignore the tags and complain to me about the fic".
