A lot of people don't like the British elite because they mostly suck but they still have lives of extraordinarily wealth and privilege. I think that's most of it.

Anyway, it's hardly anything new; when Castlereagh died, Richard Carlile said that he should be buried at a crossroads with a stake through his heart (not to mention Byron's famous elegy). It is what it is.

...Robert Stewart, Viscount Castlereagh? Died 12 August 1822?

Yes.

There's a whole lot of shitty rich people out there who are much, much more unpleasant than the British royal family. I think it's more that most of them are either a) less public than the Windsors (e.g. every mining billionaire in the world), or b) get to pretend they're "self-made" and manipulate their public image to that end (e.g. every tech bro whose parents invested $100k into baby's first startup).

Agree.

At least the royals have a responsibility to the public to actually...be present for things. Many of them have served in the military. Sure, they're on the public payroll, but many dumbfuck hateable members of the US Congress are getting pensions for life, too, and they don't have to do shit.

Oh, word. The bloody Australian Parliament only sat about a dozen weeks last year, because apparently none of those bastards can be arsed to learn how Zoom works! Well, that or they still don't have broadband in their electorate...
Between our PM, Scotty From Marketing, and say, Princess Eugenie, who seems to spend every waking hour on one charity or another? I know who I'd rather see draw a public pension.

Exactly this.

Thank-you.

Many of them have served in the military.

He had a pretty good record risking his life fighting Nazi Germany, which is more than most of the edgelords can say.
