I think you can simultaneously like a gatcha game (or more than one) and also think the setup is predatory or leads to gambling addictions. And the fact is there is enough of a market that there isn't a way to organize true boycotts that would be effective. So withdrawing your support wouldn't affect them one way or another.

(or maybe you would think this is just me quibbling because I play/played Genshin Impact, Grand Order, and another one that's more niche so I won't say it)

Kinda feeling you on this, anon. I play Grand Order and have plenty of mutuals who would retweet stuff about 'gosh so glad I don't spend my money on those predatory games' who are now all over Genshin. And just to make it more annoying they keep trying to justify that Genshin is somehow 'better' because it has a pity timer, as if that somehow makes the gacha less predatory (it especially annoys me when they compare it to FGO because yes, FGO's rates do totally suck and it really does need a viable pity system, true, but FGO can also be beaten with entirely free units, gives out excellent welfares that are sometimes better than paid ones, and while higher NP levels are nice you don't need to pull multiple copies of one character to get them to full potential).

Genshin can also easily be beaten without paying.

People are often contradictory unfortunately, especially when they happen to like something they otherwise besmirch. Granted if they're into the characters without playing the game that'd be different and not really that hypocritical?(still a little tho I suppose) But if they're playing then yeah... they're making excuses just because they're emotionally attached to 'this' predatory gatcha game.

Gotta admit I laughed at this secret even though I think it's perfectly possible to enjoy a predatory gacha game while not actually... paying for it. (Source: Me because I'm poor as heck so I'm F2P and if it's too P2W I just don't play.)

I mean, yes, gacha games suck, but there's a difference between ones you can do ok for free and ones where you have to pay. I enjoyed Avengers Academy for ages and yet I would definitely call myself someone who hates micro-transaction and gacha games.
