Slightly OT, but I know the exact vibe you mean. I've always gotten that vibe from Whedon too. Elon Musk also gives me this impression.

Since you mention Elon Musk, it bums me out that I love Tony Stark but I would probably find him just as insufferable as Elon Musk if he were a real guy.

AYRT Oh same. :( I mean at least Tony Stark gets a reality call and tries to change, in the films at least. I think the problem with Elon Musk and every single other person like him is that they already think they're Tony Stark the superhero, whereas in actual fact they're the POS spoilt obnoxious arrogant rich boys that Tony was before he got kidnapped.

There's a huge difference between getting to *watch* a guy and having to *deal with* a guy. Or having to live in the world that they influence.

I mean...Tony has actually invented things, and he's never called people pedophiles for refusing dubious help, so not quite as insufferable, you know? his fanboys would be equally insufferable tho.

Eh, Tony's public persona might make him insufferable, but I'm trying to imagine Tony promoting antivax garbage, or suggesting that people should sell themselves into indentured servitude, and I just can't see it.

I mean, Tony Stark finds himself insufferable most of the time, so fair.

Very much agree.
I recently watched a vid about all the changes that happened to JL post-Whedon, and then what was restored in the super-director cut. It was really eye-opening, and it also really showed that Whedon hasn't grown or changed in years.

when the show came out I complained about this to a white fan and they tried to tell Summer Glau was Asian. lol

I think the implication was supposed to be that Simon and River Tam were a fraction Chinese? But yeah, if that was the intention, then it's almost worse. Like, why cast white people and then imply they're slightly Chinese? Why not just cast Chinese actors?

So they really trying to pass the actress off as Asian! The way it was portrayed, i thought she was at least half/that was the implication. But WOW. I would have thought that by that time Hollywood would be over casting white actors as other ethnicities, but no. Clearly, not :/

I don't think one white fan thinking an actress is Asian means anyone involved with the show was actually trying to pass her off as Asian. Some people just make deeply stupid assumptions about race.

Look, I love Buffy and I love the first Avengers.

But hard same OP.

If this is the behavior he's pulling, there has got to be consequences. I don't care that he made a show I like. You can have a good imagination and a good sense of humor and a good skill for storytelling aaaaaand

Literally none of that has to do with how good a person you are!

So yeah. If a person has committed harm through racism and misogyny by blocking people from opportunities, harassing and abusing them, or outright physically harming them then there have to be consequences. No matter who they are.

(Well, unless there's like, weird misogynistic toddlers. We can give toddlers a chance.) (This was a joke but the rest of my comment wasn't :P)
