Re: Tumblr tags

Ok - so, the tagging thing is very dependent on specific users. Some are great at it, some are ok at it, and some just don't bother. The increase in people not bothering is probably partly to do with people getting sick of getting attacked by randos for not tagging their pomegranates and partly because COVID-times led to a huge boom of stream of consciousness posting and partly because tagging can be a pain in the ass on mobile depending on the day and how the planets are aligned.

However, tumblr's new nifty blocking feature will let you block a specific word or phrase in a post and it's not dependent on the tags. It's an actual content tag. So if you're sick of hearing about Tiger & Bunny, you can go to settings and put "tiger & bunny" in the content filter and it will get rid of any post with that phrase in the text or in the tags. If you don't put it in quotes though, you'll also filter out all posts that mention tigers and bunnies.

It's not perfect, but it's got perks. Like, I can put the name of that one user whose fanart always gets reblogged and I hate it into the content filter and boom! no more cringy fanart!

Interesting.
I do everything on my PC or laptop, so the vagaries and drawbacks of the mobile app are not familiar to me. But they always seem to be legion.

Thanks for the info!
