I got carried away - it's /only/ the 24th movie in the series ;)

Idk if I should warn separately for this but, uh, sort of looks like suicide tw? But it's not, I'm fine, I think the baby birds are too.

So I couldn't quite reach the nest standing on a chair and I need daylight to move the ladder. So after waking up and checking on the birds--still no parents, but now they cheep whenever I open the door--every half hour or so, at 2 am I cut a scrap of cashmere from an old sweater and put it over the nest in the hopes that would help hold heat in while not suffocating them, and laid it over the nest. Lots of peeping.

Then I got a pile of books, the brooder panel, and some rope, plugged in the panel, checked that the cord was long enough to plug in and still reach, and tied it, totally ignoring safety instructions, facing up under the nest. It only gets about as hot as a mother hen and it's actually not close enough to the nest for that, but I hope it helps. There wasn't enough clearance to rig it over the nest; it'll have to do.

As I was standing, in my pjs, on a chair and pile of books, tying rope and cords over beams in the carport, my brain went "you know what this looks like, right?"

Then a car went by. Really hoping they didn't see me, but I guess if someone called 911 I could apologize profusely for the confusion and ask for help putting the baby birds in a box.

I'm going to bed and getting up super early to take down the heater and tiny blanket in case the parents come back. I definitely need to call into work. And then I'll either be wrangling a box of birds on a bus and trolley, or burying birds in my yard, and either way, I'll be sleeping for awhile afterwards. So tired...

As a matter of fact, I did this once. I pulled out all the stops and built up the fandom for this rare ship from the ground up. I ran the LJ comm, hosted exchanges and events, scoured the net for fan art, and wrote up to 50% of the fic content.

And I mean, I had fun doing it, but it wasn't the kind of chill, passive fun you get consuming content for your ship, and to be honest it only really worked because I was kind of a BNF in that fandom at the time and pulled a lot of readers over from my other ships. I wouldn't say this is the solution... more like, you decide to become the solution for other fans of the ship.

Fair point. I do think that 39.5 is purposely over the top in order to stand out. 20 is too easily a misquote or slight variation on the “real” expression to be unique to me.

Thiiiis.

With my OTP I have literally only ever found about 5 other fics about them that I didn't write. Two of them were gift fics for me. It's been twenty years and I have written over 500,000 words about them. The fandom for the pairing just never materialized, except for a couple other people who enjoy it (and are good writers when they write, hence the gift fics, but they're not terribly prolific) and read/review my stuff.

Which I'm grateful for because mostly it feels like shouting into the void and annoying anyone else who's still in the fandom shipping the popular ship by spamming them with my stuff. At least I know there are two other people who aren't sick of my "writing it myself", and I have my own long plotty stuff to reread.

Good luck lol

On the one hand, the poor abandoned cat videos I was watching one day when I was feeling particularly morbid keep popping up.

On the other hand, I have major crushes on a couple of actors, and I can't look at their faces without squealing and waving my arms around like an infant, which causes embarrassment if someone is watching me when I open YouTube and see their faces all over my recs.

Don't worry darling, the thing about the trash pile is that slowly you'll have to...adjust your palate. Your desire may break you ;)

That said, i think about 15% of the trash pile tend do be decent fic (not necessarily creatively plot wise/ or amazingly written & IC -- WHAT A FUCKING TREAT-- to be on par with what you'd consider good -- the gold admist the mud) but they are average. You'll enjoy them well enough before you're sucking on marrow trying to find ANYTHING decent.

Good luck, nonnie :)

Not a TV adaptation, but check out the BBC Radio plays by Bert Coules with Clive Merrison and Michael Williams. Gold.

BBC Radio Holmes!

Not a TV adaptation but all the stories, brilliantly adapted for radio between 1989 and 1998. Clive Merrison is fabulous as Holmes, as is the late Michael Williams as Watson. I adore Brett Holmes but this tops it.
Plus there are some extras written by Bert Coules (the main writer/adapter) wit Andrew Sachs as Watson, after Williams' sad early death.

Yang Yang is very very beautiful, and I've watched some really not great dramas because of him. The King's Avatar is a really nice one, though. Low on conflict, happy ending, no romance to distract from the plot, great music.
