Re: Things You're Mildly Salty About Right Now

As a cat owner I cannot for the life of me understand why people let their cats out without supervision. There are so many things out there that can hurt or even kill your cat, and the worst part is that you would never even know what happened! They can get into poison, or get attacked by another animal, or run over, or sleep under/in someone's car, or get locked in a garage or shed...

(And I should note that all of those things are things that have happened to cats that belonged to people I know) Just. Why would you even?

I agree 100%. Our cat only gets to go out on the closed-in porch, and she's just doing fine with that. She also likes sitting in windows. She doesn't need to be free. She got out the front door once, and though she came back at the end of the day, I spent that entire day terrified. There are too many things that can hurt a cat out there. Our neighborhood has hawks.

This. Plus there's all the asshole people who will intentionally poison animals for doing animal things, so why would you take that chance?

tbh I can't blame those people one bit. If someone has a fenced-in yard, why should they have to put up with someone else's pet coming in and terrorizing the birds they put up a bird feeder for? Pretty much everywhere has leash laws for dogs that make it illegal for people to let their dogs run loose, so why should cats be any different?

Not to mention they keep shitting all over the place, preferably in herb gardens etc. Like, I wouldn't poison them (I like cats and all) but we do tend to encourage them to leave the garden when we see them (at most by making noise, at worst by getting water involved).

I would call anyone who poisoned stray dogs a monster, tbh, and cats too. It's not their fault humans abandoned them.

Perhaps they have a particularly stupid roommate who refuses to grasp that the owner taking their cat out on a harness occasionally isn't remotely the same thing as said stupid roommate letting the cats out of the house because they fucking well feel like it.

(I'm not still bitter about that scare, why do you ask?)
