I believe it is 4 years as a student and then about 2 years in the attic, so that would be 13, maybe 14.

Cool!
It never seemed very clear, and people seem to treat her as *young* girl, but then when she starts getting food regularly, suddenly Miss Minchin has her teaching the students and you'd think she'd have to be older for that.....

That and 'Secret Garden' are right up there in my top ten of 'books i read as a kid and still love'.

It was my favorite book as a kid. I think I read it at least a hundred times.
