A man is dead, and the man who murdered him is in jail. 10 years ago, 1 year ago, the man who murdered him would have been found to have used justifiable force and would have returned from his paid leave to his cushy job where he could continue to brutalize the general public without consequences until he retired and could collect his pension.

If you’re struggling to be glad that a new precedent of formally holding the police accountable for their actions has been set, then I am sorry. However, since the precedent, if it holds, is going to save many lives, you might want to keep your personal struggles to yourself for a few days.

Your optimism is nice, but I understand why ayrt isn't out there celebrating too. Hell, you yourself said "if" the precedent holds. I certainly HOPE it holds, but it is going to be very wait-and-see for a while. And none of us should ever get complacent, because the last 4-5 years have proven that progress can be undone if we aren't careful.
