How dare you. Show some respect. I solved gender yesterday by having A put his penis in B's butthole

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 12:37 am (UTC)(link)
but have you solved homophobia by making sure that the shorter man never, ever bottoms no matter what?

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 02:12 am (UTC)(link)
No I was busy solving racism by turning asian characters black

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
One thing I really hate about fandom culture these days is this idea that you need to have a moral/ethical/woke reason for why you like or dislike something. Like...why can't I like a show/ship/character/dynamic just because anymore? Why does everyone feel the need to write a 100 page manifesto to justify liking or disliking a fictional thing?????

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
I think people are still, despite what they claim, embarrassed about a hobby thought of as "lonely girls writing internet porn about guys they have crushes on". This can lead to a ton of harmful behavior because nobody wants to admit that a lot of our preferences in fic reading/writing are motivated by what makes us tingle down there. So you end up with people criticizing each other because they expected literature and got porn, or expected porn and got literature.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 10:59 am (UTC)(link)
Yah, no idea why it's so shameful to write about what makes us tingle down there. That's been pretty much the whole of literature written by men for centuries.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Possibly because we're no longer an under the radar and largely ignored group of people, viewed as a weird phenomena. Now fandom and fic is common knowledge, easily accessible, widely discussed and everywhere online.

Possibly because some people in fandom insist on calling everyone who isn't shipping the BIPOC, differently abled, gender-fluid character ONLY WITH the on-the-spectrum, transgender woman character a racist, misogynist, transphobic, homophobic, heterophobic, ableist pedophile.

Antis gonna anti.

God, it's the worst lmao. Is this TJLC's fault? This feels like TJLC's fault.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 12:22 am (UTC)(link)
It's older than TJLC. TJLC just took it to dazzling new lows.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 04:04 am (UTC)(link)
It was around much earlier than that, but I have to admit it was the first time that I saw "this adult man bottoming instead of this other adult man is pedophilia".

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 05:27 pm (UTC)(link)
What the heck is TJLC?

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
I don’t understand why anyone feels they need to justify their preferences to internet strangers.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 04:20 am (UTC)(link)
It's not really about justifying their preferences; it's about bullying other fans into catering to their preferences.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-21 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)
Slash isn't always porn but yeah social justice based on fic seems almost entirely pointless if not entirely lol.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 05:14 am (UTC)(link)
I agree that you don't need a woke reason to like or not like something in fandom, but saying that porn can't be progressive because it's porn is itself part of another problem with fandom. Porn doesn't need to be progressive, but it can be. And that's a neutral statement.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 06:20 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, yes! There's nothing woke about fetishizing gay porn, nor is there anything wrong about it. Like what you like, fuck the noise.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 07:09 am (UTC)(link)
there's nothing woke about bleating about "fetishizing" when you're talking about porn

it's porn

it's for getting off to that's literally its purpose

It is indeed hilarious and stupid when people try to pretend that top/ bottom preferences are about anything other than just, like, aesthetics.

(Anonymous) 2021-04-22 05:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh, maybe because I'm old-school sex-positive, but porn isn't above (or below) media criticism, and it's entirely reasonable to be critical of (skeeved out by) tropes, clichés, and other stuff that becomes marketable and faddish.

That said, you can be critical without putting individuals under a microscope for their kinks.
