In 2006 it was (mostly) considered funny, but it hasn't all aged well. There are still bits that I love (primarily from the first season) but also other bits I just can't stomach any more. It happens with a lot of sitcoms - Father Ted people touted as the most brilliant thing ever at the time. A lot of it now is really cringey.

The shoes bit actually doesn't bother me (as a woman). It's a stereotype, but I also know plenty of women who do love their shoes. I'm just not one of them.

Father Ted has aged about a million times better than IT Crowd despite being like a decade older

Not in terms of objectionable content, just in terms of quality

I think if you come fresh to Father Ted it probably hasn't aged well. As someone who spent part of their childhood/teens in Ireland in the nineties though I can tell you that it's a brilliant and affectionate charicature of the reality of life in rural Eire at that time. It has aged a lot better for that reason I think.
