111: I am 100% with you there. Dick isn't Batman, that's why he became Nightwing. Personally, I think Tim should take up the cowl. His new outfit is about two-thirds of the way there anyway, and he's got the angst for it. He is probably too young, but I think that'd make it even more interesting!
Unfortunately, it doesn't really seem like writers go for 'interesting' so much, so it probably will be Dick. Assuming that the whole thing isn't massively retconned, which would really really suck.

What worries me is that they've been building Tim up for it - Dick is actually starting to sound less whiny again but Tim is sounding more so. But then, if Bruce isn't dead, the whole thing will be moot point anyway.

Yeah, that's definitely the impression I was getting. But then everyone just seems to assume that it'll be Dick, which confuses me. Do you not want Tim to be Batman?
I don't actually want Bruce to die. I hope (ha ha ha, this sounds so messed up) that he's just crazy, so one of the other guys can take over. I feel like if he actually dies, the chance of his being brought back and re-instated as batman is a lot higher.
Also, if Tim become Bman, Damien can take over as Robin. So everything could be right back to normal, except still new and interesting. But again, the likeliness of this is not looking good at all.

I'm fairly new to it all (as in I started reading in November) but as it stands, I'd prefer Tim to Dick, but as a rule, I wouldn't want either. Tim's got enough angst without putting in a suit he doesn't want and while I like the idea of Damian being Robin, I can't really see him as Tim's Robin. I know someone made an off-hand comment writers wise about Batman being dead but Bruce not so I am desperately clinging on to hope there.

Ha ha ha, I really only started reading Batman when RIP started, because it sounded epic and insane (I'm actually a huge Green Arrow fan more than anything else, shhhh don't tell anyone!), so I also don't know all of the backstory and stuff, plus I never got into Nightwing, so what's been going on with Dick is just sort of a mystery.
It is true, though, that Tim has too much angst. From what I'v read before he got all depressed, he was a fun, dorky kid! And I'd love it if he could return to that somehow. And there's the age thing too, though as the DCU doesn't actually have any teen headliners, I think that could be really cool.
So you mean there would just be no Batman at all? I don't know. There's no way Batman can just disappear. He's Batman! I think someone will have to take over, but beyond Dick and Tim I don't know who could. Unless someone just assumes it, like Cassie did as Batgirl. That could be interesting.

I have no idea what's going on with Dick either beyond running around New York. I know that he wore the suit once before and had major angst about it. I also know Tim saw himself as Batman once before and freaked out. That's the main reasoning behind my not liking the idea.

He was! I've seen proof that he was dorktastic and kind of wonderful and I'd love to see him like that again but I think if he takes the cowl, he won't be able to.

I'm not sure about whether there would be. I think I just can't see any of the Robins taking over because Dick and Tim have issues with it, Steph is Spoiler and Jason can't keep his rules straight.

The irony of all of this was I got into it via Batman Beyond which of course, has a different Batman than Bruce. I think that's what I'd want: someone with the right reasons, not someone who just has a sense of honour-bound duty to Bruce himself.

I don't think anyone actually wants to be Batman. It is possibly the worst job in history. And if Tim does become Batman, dork!Tim will probably never ever come back. Which would be horrible! I love Tim!

Yeah, none of the Robins really fit. And just because they were (sort of) raised by Bruce doesn't mean they're exactly like him, or meant to take up his crusade. Dick would be miserable as Batman! And I would be miserable, because I'm really a big fan of the Nightwing costume.

The whole problem would be solved if we could just get Terry mcGinnis in here. That would be excellent.

This is precisely the point. Earth-12 is a canon, why can't we get him in? The idea of Tim and Terry amuses the hell out of me - Terry has the drive, but he's young and he needs refinement and Tim has all that refinement and angst but needs reminding about hope. Although Robin usually stands for hope, the idea of it being reversed is a really interesting one to me. I know that Bruce wanted to learn from Dick to a degree because of his enthusiasm so perhaps it would work in reverse and the boys could benefit from someone with enthusiasm and a mission coming in.

Because Tim's *way* too young to be Batman. If he was like 25 or older than, yeah, he's DEFINITELY next in line, but he's like 15 or whatever -- since they never grow up in the DC Universe.

I don't know. Dick grew up, even though it did take a long time for that to happen! So did all the original sidekicks. So he could potentially turn 18 at some point (after what? 20 odd years of being 15? No wonder he's got so much angst). And though yes, it probably won't happen because of the age thing, I think a teenaged Batman would be really interesting. I think a teenaged hero who wasn't a sidekick or part of a team would be really cool, especially if it were to be Batman!
