I haven't read Shadow and Bone or any of the other books in the series, but I don't know enough about Russia to know if Catherynne Valente's Deathless, Katherine Arden's The Bear and the Nightingale and sequels, or Naomi Novik's Spinning Silver do a better job at incorporating Russian or at least Eastern European folklore.
But they're all adult books and I think Shadow and Bone is YA, not that that excuses (mis)using Russian names and vocabulary.
