I almost never understand a song the first time I hear it, regardless of the language it's in, and sometimes learning the lyrics ruins songs for me, so I guess I'm the opposite of you. I have a lot of songs in my collection that I don't understand at all and never will.
But like, as a child I'd listened to english music even before I could speak english (gàidhlig, or scottish gaelic, is my first language) and mum was fond of music in other languages so I'd been listening to nice sounding "nonsense" for a long time.
