Eh, I just see these kind of things as an offshoot of the Kinsey scale--some people are at the extremes of the scale (and to say they don't exist at all is silly), but most are somewhere in the middle. I don't know of the actual research that's gone on since then, but "most people are varying degrees of bisexual" isn't just a fandom thing.
