Riza is rescued by Roy far more times than she rescues him. At least in the manga.

Which is just one of the reasons why the anime, while a clusterfuck all its own, fails less in many ways.

Enlighten me? I can't recall a single time when he actually rescues her. I'm sure there was a time but I don't remember.

There's...the time with gluttony in the tower. And the thing with Lust. And I guess you can count the team running amok together in recent chapters, but that's not really rescuing so much as TEAMWORK FUCK YEAH.

I can recount Hawkeye saving him more times than that off of the top of my head.

Oh yeah... Yeah, wasn't that all teamwork? Roy struck the final blow(s) most of the time but that's probably because he's the second main character next to Ed and Al.

Yeah, me too. So I don't get it. ^^;

Nah, both of those were pretty clear-cut rescues. Hawkeye was seriously badass up in that tower, but small-arms fire just isn't capable of putting Gluttony down for an appreciable amount of time and she was about to get chomped when Roy made his dynamic entry. And the Lust thing, she was again going to die when Roy made his entrance and burnt Lust to a crisp.

I flipped back through those parts and while I guess they kinda were, I still don't see it as a reason for her to be put in that secret. Just because she was rescued doesn't make her weak or anything. Riza can hold her own plenty.

I dunno. I guess I just think it's reading too much into things.

The Lust fiasco comes to mind immediately. Mangawise, I can't recall her ever rescuing him, and if she ever did it was on a less grand scale than when he saved her (only a panel or a page at best). Which I think is probably why she was included in this secret. It's not that the girls are entirely useless or can't hold their own, but when they rescue a guy it's just something that happens whereas when they are the ones being saved, it's glorified.

Okay I did some recalling. I know she saved his ass during the first fight with Scar, during their fight with Gluttony and in the Ishbal war flashbacks. In the anime she saved him at the end of the series and mirrored the manga to save him when they fought Scar. Whereas the only one that Roy really epically saved her in was against Lust. And even then (similar to the Gluttony battle in the manga) it was more teamwork than anything. So, uh. I can't agree. XD;

Though another thing to keep in mind is that Roy is the main character next to Ed and Al. So his accomplishments in general are glorified probably based on that alone. However I can't say it's more so than Riza. She does a lot of pretty amazing things in her own right.

How was the Lust fight teamwork? Riza was on the ground sobbing and saying she had no reason to live because Roy was dead and didn't really do anything to Lust by the time Roy walked in all burnt and badass and epically destroyed her. The time she saved him from Scar was, basically, a page. Can't comment on Gluttony and Ishbal since I stopped reading right before Ishbal since the manga bored me to tears.

The Lust fight was pretty ridiculous and does go along with the secret is mostly because Riza is literally reduced to a damsel in distress just so that Roy can save her. Strong, independent Riza breaks down and literally just gives up on life and was waiting to die before Roy came in and was like, "Bitch, fuck no. >8|" And to me, this was just so mindboggling because the Riza I was used to wasn't like this at all and she suddenly does a 180 because some lady comes out of no where and is like, "BY THE WAY, I MAY HAVE KILLED ROY MUSTANG." She doesn't even show Riza any proof that she's being truthful, and yet for some reason intelligent Riza just. Believes her. Just because. And flips the fuck out. And when it comes right down to it, there was little reason for it other than to give Roy the opportunity to rush in and save her all badass like. And that really isn't okay.

And really, Roy being a main character does not excuse shitty writing to justify him being the hero. If Arakawa wants him to be the hero, fine, make him be the hero, but not at the expense of Riza or any other characters' writing and development.

So because Riza shows emotion over the fact that someone she has come to deeply care for over the years may be dead, she's considered OOC and a "damsel in distress"? I think that's actually called character growth.

Plus she has a similar type of breakdown in the anime at the end. How was that different?

Also, to clarify, I don't think the secret is putting down the characters themselves, more that the author goes out of their way to put these characters into situations that they really should not have gotten themselves into simply for them to be rescued by a man. It's not the characters that are the problem here, it's the writing. Which is a completely valid arguement.

Ahahaha, I could not disagree with you more on everything so I'm just gonna say I agree to disagree. THOUGH you do have some points and put my knowledge of the series to shame. XD Besides the whole "OMG SEXIST ANIME RAWR!" argument makes my head hurt because, in all honesty, I see most of it as such BS.
