Hmm, Riza seems to fit the 'faux action chick' trope, in that she's built up as an incredibly capable and above-average individual but we just don't get to see it much. There are only a very few incidents in the anime where she displays her skill, whereas others play larger roles. Manga, I don't recall.

I think what I like more about the FMA female cast is that they don't talk themselves up like they have something to prove against men. Rather, they do display genuine pride in their own capabilities and use them as they and their loved ones need.

In the manga she's got a pretty important role and proves to be more than average. It's covered in flashbacks, but I think she's a pretty integral part of a team. I really like how the...group of people that work with Roy (horrible with terminology here) is able to fight so effectively.

I remember a wartime flashback when Hughes mentioned to Roy that the 'had a Hawk's eye watching over them' and then the comic flashed to Hawkeye, who was sitting in a tower with a sniper rifle.
