My dad has this musical on vinyl (probably THE original iirc) so I heard it a lot growing up and I definitely thought Judas has the coolest voice and songs. Isn’t it normal to think that?

I can't think of a single adaptation (and I have watched/listened to at least a hundred at this point) where Judas wasn't the high point. Even the high school version where the high point was still several thousand feet below sea level.

Not a dynamic I’d seek out usually either but definitely agree with your last statement. They probably had the healthiest relationship in the entire show. I know that’s a low bar obviously.

You’ve reminded me that I saw a production at uni and the guy playing Judas was about a million miles above everyone else. These were people who borderline spent more time doing theatre than their actual degrees so they were good. But guy playing Judas was on his own level.

(The guy paying Herod was a bit blah but imo that song sucks anyway.)
