My dad has this musical on vinyl (probably THE original iirc) so I heard it a lot growing up and I definitely thought Judas has the coolest voice and songs. Isn’t it normal to think that?

I can't think of a single adaptation (and I have watched/listened to at least a hundred at this point) where Judas wasn't the high point. Even the high school version where the high point was still several thousand feet below sea level.

No, that is the correct way to enjoy JCSS. The role people fight over is Judas.

Granted, when you have Boss Diva Jesus it gets difficult to choose because the lure of high quality ham cannot be denied.

I'll say that most people simply can't get near a good Jesus (Gethsemane is a killer and the part is too nuanced imo), so yeah Judas is the best part, usually. But a GREAT JCSS will have a pull to both of them, as they embody the essential tension.

I have a friend on FB who was going on and on for awhile about Judas in some production of this and how amazing his outfit was and she wanted it and the dude was disturbingly hot, and... given her tastes, I think we have a winner.
