Yeah, sadly it's true. Go back and listen to the lyrics and notice how many of them are expressing negativity and resentment towards women. The ones I list in the background of my secret are just the ones I found most obvious. (I also don't think it's a coincidence that he covered "Baby Got Back".)

Thankfully many of his songs appear to be neutral. But that doesn't really ease my conscience.

Because, clearly, if anyone expresses resentment to anything with a vagina he's a horrible misogynist.

The only one I can think of is "Someone is crazy," and none of those are directed to the female gender as a whole, just a female who may or may not even be real.

I think that he is actually mocking the attitudes of resentment in his lyrics. For example, I don't think he actually thinks that the way the mad scientist in Skullcrusher Mountain relates to women is a good one. The joke is that the evil mad scientist doesn't realize this. The words are meant to be somewhat creepy. I don't think JOCO is a misogynist or a jerk. Sometimes his lyrics say jerk-like things, but that's part of the humour.

The Shopvac song lyrics come to mind too. "If you need me, I'll be down here, with the shop vac, you can cry but I probably won't hear you, because it's loud with the shop vac on..." This is a song in which he's worried that he's being insensitive to his wife just because he owns and uses a loud vaccuum. Not a misogynist sort of thing to do!

Probably ought to mention--although I'm way behind the times here--that "Famous Blue Raincoat" isn't even Coulton's song. It's a Leonard Cohen cover--Tori Amos has done it, too, which gave an interesting twist to the gender roles.
