143. But why can the Master change gender, and not the Doctor? The argument I've heard for the Doctor being female is that we've never seen a Time Lord change gender. I'm not saying you're being sexist--just curious.

As for race, well, it seems like it shouldn't be any more important than his hair color or eye color changing (and wasn't Eight the first Doctor without blue eyes?).

143. Well, that's actually a pretty good question. I just can't see the Doctor as a woman, just like I can't imagine Jenny ever regenerating into a man. There are just some characters that I can only see as one gender, and to me, the Master as a woman would be a fantastic twist.

And I agree that it shouldn't be important, but in my head it's just the way the Doctor is. I grew up watching the Doctor and seeing him in his various forms and I love him as he is. Some classic characters just shouldn't be changed. Plus, he hasn't had a chance to be ginger yet- he should have a chance to be ginger.

This is the first poster in this thread and I think that's what happened at the end of The Last of the Time Lords. I think that when he died, he transferred himself to Lucy, and no one would suspect a thing because she's been driven "mad". It would be too perfect.

Indeed, and that's why it would make more sense for the Master to come back as a woman (particularly since that's about the only way I can think for a Time Lord's gender to change, considering that there are canonically Time Ladies as well), because the Master is that much of a bastard.

Stupid to nickpick, given the discussion that's going on here, but as I understand it, Ten's the first Doctor without blue eyes. One of many reasons my brother and sister weren't happy with him (BIG Nine fans).
