Man, I had fun playing Ni No Kuni II, but I was severely disappointed in its otherwise lackluster story. It's less a narrative than it is an excuse plot for Evan's quest.
And I think Roland's role was majorly wasted. Like dude literally witnessed what was his world ending from what I presume is political war and had a son he genuinely missed, but that's casually brushed aside and barely talked about. Like bah???
