Transcript: Writing more Doctor Who fanfic has really made me resent Rose Tyler.

She was never my favorite companion, and I really dislike companion/Doctor romances, but when I was just reading DW fic I could pretty easily avoid all the fics pairing her with various Doctors. But now that I'm writing more fic I can't help but get annoyed that every fic featuring her gets way more hits than stuff featuring ANY of the other companions. Clara's the only one who comes close.

I would never say this publicly, since the DW fandom loves negativity and dogpiling, but I can't help that little bit of resentment that my fic stands no chance next to something featuring her.

people like what they like. it doesn't make a lot of sense to me but what are you going to do? I mean if I had my way 60% of Doctor Who fic would be about Ace hooking up with space chicks.

While I loved 9Rose platonically (and I 100% had issues with how she just sort of kept dropping Mickey to run off and expecting him to just... chill? while she was gone), her and 10 definitely brought out the worse in each other and to me her characterization and any likeableness went straight down hill from there.

I liked Rose's interactions with 9. I enjoyed her in her first season. Didn't ship her and the Doctor, but she and 9 at least had good friendship chemistry.

Then Ten came, and Rose and the Doctor both started bringing out the worst in each other. And the narrative kept trying to shove her as the Doctor's true love, even though he's had many bodies and a long life, and she's just a normal, mortal human. It just didn't work. And they just actively made each other worse. And everything was about her, even after she was gone. Ugh. So I still like Rose's first season, but she's my least favorite companion and I hate her after series 1.

Add me to the pile of people who liked Rose with Nine, but disliked her with Ten. People can and should read all the Rose fic if that’s their jam and I can just scroll past, but it bugs me when some people act like Rose was the Doctor’s one true love and think all the Doctors after Ten should still pine for her and damn the narrative if it doesn’t agree with them.

I adore Sarah and Bucky, they were so cute in the show. I love the idea of Bucky being able to just have a normal relationship after everything he's been through - it's a different kind of recovery and healing than in a lot of fics, but it really appeals to me. I hope that if there's a season 2 we get to see more of just them living their daily lives.

I mean...I do see that as a deliberate flaw of his, and of a lot of the people most heavily involved in the cultivation world. A huuuge part of the entire problem of the sects is how heavily they lean on tradition and the path of least resistance. Jiang Cheng, especially once he becomes sect leader and needs to maintain the entire clan's credibility, can't rock the boat, or at least feels like he can't, without it having huge consequences for everyone under his care. All of the sect leaders demonstrate this moral weakness (it's especially prominent at the second battle of Nightless City; watch Lan Xichen and Nie Mingjue's faces and their lack of action).

Coming from someone who's not read the books and only seen the show: he isn't written that way at all, and his affection for Alina is just a strong and mutual(they just haven't acted on it yet). So you don't have to worry, he's not a dick. :)

Man, I had fun playing Ni No Kuni II, but I was severely disappointed in its otherwise lackluster story. It's less a narrative than it is an excuse plot for Evan's quest.

And I think Roland's role was majorly wasted. Like dude literally witnessed what was his world ending from what I presume is political war and had a son he genuinely missed, but that's casually brushed aside and barely talked about. Like bah???

Transcript: With the death of Prince Phillip, a number of my theatre friends have been revisiting this play. I was lucky enough to be able to see it when it was on Broadway, and I really enjoyed it at the time.

I recently watched the filmed BBC version, and wow has this play aged weirdly. The central idea of the king being caught between signing a bill that would greatly hinder freedom of speech/the press and maintaining the balance of power or not signing the bill and starting a shift of power towards the monarchy and potential despotism... I won't say it isn't compelling, but with the drama that the royal family has caused by meddling with politics behind the scenes recently it feels a little bit too optimistic of a setup.

On the other hand, this play totally called Harry ditching the royal family because of him marrying/intending to marry a former actress, so props I guess?

Okay so I love FFIV desperately and have bought five different versions of it on five different consoles, but... yep.

I mean there is a lot of "I will sacrifice myself to save you!" throughout the entirety of the game with sooooo many characters, and the only one who actually stays dead is Tellah. (Palom and Porom I can excuse, because they are kids who used a spell to transform themselves, presumably the elder would have stronger magic.) It would've been so much better, really, if all these meaningful sacrifices with the sad music playing and the little head-bowed sprites afterwards... actually stuck.

Amusingly enough, this is why when I got to the end of disc 1 of Final Fantasy VII, I did not cry, or even feel particularly sad. Just waited to see what the resurrection would involve. Eventually realized I was at the end of the final dungeon and ... okay guess she's really dead. XD
