I mean there is a lot of "I will sacrifice myself to save you!" throughout the entirety of the game with sooooo many characters, and the only one who actually stays dead is Tellah. (Palom and Porom I can excuse, because they are kids who used a spell to transform themselves, presumably the elder would have stronger magic.) It would've been so much better, really, if all these meaningful sacrifices with the sad music playing and the little head-bowed sprites afterwards... actually stuck.
Amusingly enough, this is why when I got to the end of disc 1 of Final Fantasy VII, I did not cry, or even feel particularly sad. Just waited to see what the resurrection would involve. Eventually realized I was at the end of the final dungeon and ... okay guess she's really dead. XD

(Anonymous) 2021-05-08 01:58 am (UTC)(link)Anyway, FFIV has... quite a few plot holes or just weird plot points, but I love the cast!

And ooooops, heh. Yes, reversing the order of those two games would make it a rather different experience...

Health problems have prevented me from doing much other than mobile gaming (lack of ability to focus on plot or strategy over the pain being a large part of it) for the last several years, but I would definitely give it a shot if I ever become able again. From the stuff I've seen them get up to in their cosplay shoots and so on, it seems like a fun series. =)

(Anonymous) 2021-05-08 06:54 am (UTC)(link)I initially read this as “trying to figure out the best way to manipulate the genocidal moons to their advantage” and immediately decided that I need to play this game at the earliest opportunity. Manipulating the moon aliens makes much more sense and still sounds amazing. (But part of me is still slightly disappointed, not going to lie.)

Though they remixed some of the music and like... that crazy bassline was always really prominent in the final boss theme and I couldn't hear it all and it made the fight seem really weird. I think you can change it back to the non-remix music, but it wasn't so off-putting until that moment that I hadn't. XD
Also includes The After Years, which uhhh... your mileage may vary. But it is included so that everyone can make up their own mind about it, at least. One of my friends who is similarly obsessed with FFIV absolutely loathes it and makes fun of it at every possibility, but it has some high points (like Edward gets to be kind of quietly badass, and I appreciate his character a lot even if he is a sucky party member). ;)
