the little hair buns make this guy look cute... knowing very little about yakuza, that was the main takeaway i got from this secret lol sorry op

where even are the hardcore nishitani fans, nevermind the ones who hate the heck out of sagawa's business?

sagawa was always gonna be more disliked by the fandom for stomping down majima, regardless of what his reasons were or majima's feelins on the matter. nishitani, arguably the birthplace of the fan favourite we know in the rest of the series, was never going to get looked at critically. but other than being key players relative to majima in y0, I don't think they have much in common.

yakuza as a series has a huge habit of going "but THESE yakuza have good moral reasons for killing people", which makes sense, because the vast majority of the key players are yakuza and you narratively have to differentiate between the good ones and the bad ones somehow. it's very easy to see who's considered positive by the series when you just look at whether or not kiryu thinks they're honourable or 'real yakuza'. plenty of antagonists have died with the 'real yakuza' tag and been thought of positively by the narrative.
