Ugh, that's annoying. But I guess it's easier than saying the truth, if the truth is they have no intention of reading it? I flat out tell people I don't read much so don't take offense (if they ASK me to read something I don't wanna read, that is). I also tell friends not to read mine if I know they're only saying they will BECAUSE they're my friend (like it's not their pairing). Just... no, you're not obligated!

Also -- more disappointing than annoying -- people who act super excited to read my fic, tell me they can't wait for me to start posting it, all that... and then are nowhere to be found once I post. Or they read one chapter and promptly disappear.

It me. I'm that friend who hardly reads anything despite me really liking my friends. Maybe I will indeed say that it's hard for me to sit down and commit to reading sometimes if it comes up. Just didn't really know how to say it before.

(I don't continuously promise though!)

This isn't me, but it COULD be me, because, damn. Am I bad at doing what others ask me to. Like, I'm diligent when it comes to stuff I HAVE to do such as work or paying bills but when I'm supposed to be relaxing all I want to do is... relax. It weighs a lot but I can't bring myself to do something I don't particularly want to. And surely the longer you procrastinate, the harder it is.

Hey, it's okay. Most people understand that their friends have lives.

I've got a bunch of friends who don't read my fic either (I'm a multi-fandom party girl). You wanna know what's easy and always appreciated?

Congratulate them on finishing and posting.

It always makes me happy, and I know we're still buds, yeah?

AYRT - Thank you! I do that, but sometimes they ask me personally, and I don't want to say "uhh... no?" - in fact, I may even want to read their fic etc - but I'm bad at doing anything non-spontaneous when I'm having fun so I end up forgetting because I have too many things to do and read and sort out, and then I realize it's been months and it's just too awkward to mention it whoops. Sigh. :(

Oh, ouch. Yeah, when people ask you personally they really put you on the spot.

You could say you're a bit short of spoons, maybe. People usually understand that.
