Actually, lots of people who hear voices are able to function normally and live regular healthy lives.

Yes, but that doesn't make it healthy. Schizophrenia is a mental disease, remember? And, I suppose, like all diseases it can be worse or better depending on who is affected and how. But it's still a disease.

Edit to clarify: People also live normal, productive lives with cancer (my high school English teacher.), AIDs, and other diseases. That doesn't make those disease healthy in any way.

I don't particularly like the word disease in that context. Illness is better.

Why isn't it? Because the majority of people don't do it? Why is it a bad thing?

Because normal people don't hear voices inside their heads? Because if it gets bad enough, someone with schizophrenia isn't able to distinguish between reality and their voices/hallucinations? Because people with schizophrenia are often delusional?

It is not mentally healthy to hear strange voices in your head, period. It is an illness. Jesus Christ on a stick, will people in fandom defend everything?
