119. Some people can make it with nothing but themselves as 'fuel' for their desires. Some people don't. I don't consider it shameful to want to improve due to an example set by someone else, lord knows I've done it in the past.

121. I suppose it is because a ship like that require a lot of sacrifice and heartache. Angsty pairings that are completely unhealthy will create tragedy, healthy relationships will create romance. It is simple and you know where it's going from start to end. Perhaps people don't like the thought that with hard work, people can change into the better, because they are afraid to dream.

Or perhaps they are just realistic and consider such unlikely "one in a million" relationships unhealthy fantasies. There could be a vast number of reasons for disliking and liking such ideas of shipping, but I guess that in the end, that's how it is with relationships too... really no set, solid rules for how you build a 'good' one, so people prefer going with what they've seen work in the past for simplicities sake.

125. Agreed to a certain extent. Fandom is often a breeding ground for many different ideas, views and concepts, fanfic itself a sandbox where we can explore different scenarios to our hearts contents. To see a romantic relationship between several people does not always need to mean that one is incapable of seeing, appreciating and writing platonic friendships and pairings between just two people: it just means that may not necessarily be your favorite thing to write about.

Although I gotta say, using Kingdom Hearts may not have been the best idea. I mean, canon there is so goshdarn fuzzy you can get away with practically any pairing because there really aren't any firm, deep reasonings as to why one pairing works over another. There's more a loose gathering of concepts there, more than any solid, undeniable pairings. Still, nice secret with a point was point-having.

127. ... Now I want Xzibit to pimp their island. SOMEHOW. HE COULD DO IT HE'S XZIBIT HE CAN.

129. Nooooo.... not this. I cannot condone this. Not this.

145. No, it's okay. I too feel kind of like that, because Blue Beetle in Teen Titans means very few chances of his awesome supporting cast. No Paco makes the DC-verse a worse place. :(

150. What is this canon?

158. I'd advice you to post it anyway. Maybe noone would come, but at least if you had written it, you could be proud of what you've done, you know?

164. Oh Blitzwing. How I adore that utter wackjob, even if I have never really given that much actual thought to what you're talking about here. Though I must say that you have a point: Blitzwing does not have three separate, distinctive wills that go in different directions, as much as he just has three VERY different main methods of making decisions.

169. Bechdel test? What is that?

t!b 2. Yyyeah... I think I must agree here. Lelouch was the kind of guy who only wanted sex when he was in the pits of despair and at the bottom of his barrel, it's like... that fella and physical attraction to anyone is an almost foreign concept to me. Besides he was saving himself for Nunnally and was so grateful to Kallen for slapping him and preventing his mistake that he would never dream of making any untowards advances again. I don't care how unreasonable that thinking is it's my canon and I'm sticking to it.

*Que everyone on the island slapping their hands on their cheeks and going "OH MY GAAAAWWWD" and hollering in joy over their newer, shinier island.*

(Anonymous) 2009-02-02 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
there's the surprise ending: Xzibit pimped their island and now they HAVE TO GO BACK

169

It comes from a character in Alison Bechdel's comic who will only watch a movie if it:

(a) Has two women in it who
(b) Talk to each other
(c) About something other than a man.

You mean series? Maria Holic, which is a parody of yuri with a trap in the middle of it all.

I used Kingdom Hearts because "why can't they all just get together?" comes up a lot, especially about the three main human characters, but also about others. It's actually not the main fandom I have a problem with this in-- the characters of Kingdom Hearts probably could do this if they wanted to, but I've seen people think that characters with bucketloads of jealousy and self-worth issues, no social experience whatsoever, the inability to trust other people, the inability to see people as people and not things put there for them to manipulate, blah blah blah... could successfully all date each other. I'm not polyamorous myself (and having a group or open relationship would take away what makes a relationship desirable to me) but I know enough about it that it's hard, and that it's not something that'll work for everyone.

With Kingdom Hearts, though, the problem is that they all care about each other so much as friends, that if a romance came into the picture, it would have to be secondary. If Sora and Kairi got together, based on the nature of their friendship, they'd make sure that they still spent a lot of time with Riku and cared about him just as much as they used to. That's just the way the friends ended up at the end of the second game. (I used to ship Riku/Sora pretty hard, but now I think I just want them all to stay friends, and be the central figures of each others lives even if they have romantic relationships with other people.) I think this is the case with a lot of other anime/game nakama, too-- they're a group of friends first, and in that case, I think shipping them all is kind of minimizing friendship.

Not that all OT3s are like this (I wouldn't say I actively ship any, but I think that Liz/Kidd/Patti in Soul Eater is kind of adorable). There's reasons for shipping groups, even if it's not what I'm personally into. I'm just sick of the whole "but they're all such good friends!" argument.
