125. So very much yes. Newsflash to fandom: you can love someone without ~loving~ them.
132. Waitasec, there are awesome Beatles covers in this movie? Damn, now I have to actually see it :\
135. GREAT BIG MEH. More Bingley for me. <3
136. YANA, BB, YANA.
143. Ohhhhhhh Godddddddddddddd. *bitchy pretentious drama geek is bitchy and pretentious* READ THE PLAY, people. This doesn't even make SENSE as a movie. FFS, ninety percent of the plot is them coming to discover that they're in a play. I would see Tim Roth and Gary Oldman in R&GAD on stage in a nanosecond, but it doesn't work at all as a movie. /endrant
144. The Motherfucking Subjunctive is an AWESOME BAND NAME.
149. Mostly I hate it because of all the people who became "Plain White Ts fans" after the song became a single. No, you're not a fan of the band, you're a fan of the one song. Which is perfectly okay, but don't go around misrepresenting yourself.
161. He's much hotter when he wears clothes. I think it's his massive deltoids.
170. Me too, a little.

I think it does work, they do, what is admittedly a very difficult task, well. The actors bring something extra to the roles e.g. there's aspects of Rosencrantz's character that we only see because of Gary Oldman. Just little things. The play itself is a work of genius, and the film should not be discredited, particularly as Tom Stoppard directed it.

I don't know-- I think if it was originally a movie it wouldn't be so problematic, but there's such depth to the play that comes from it being a play that gets lost on the screen. For example, the dichotomy that comes from the Player et. al. An acting troupe in a movie just doesn't quite work as well as an acting troupe in a play. It loses its immediacy and prescience; the audience gets too removed from the action. And there's other, smaller things-- Hamlet spitting into the audience, the reveal of the boat, the Player getting "killed". If RAGAD was adapted to the idea of the two of them being movie characters, it would work better. They do it as if they're still in a play, which, obv, they aren't.

And thus my thoughts on yaoi, sorry :\

LOLOLOL.

Oh, and hello! :P

Oh, and I don't feel the same pissiness about Plain White T's, but I totally understand being irked at "fans" of a band who like one song. *Cough*I Will Follow You Into the Dark*cough.*

[identity profile] oldstarnewshine.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 01:22 am (UTC)(link)
If I ever start a band, for fucking SERIOUS.

My irkedness at PWT "fans" in particular comes from the fact that I saw them on tour with Simple Plan (oh god shaame), thought they were cool, and listened to their songs (and, NGL, the lead singer wore a military outfit the second time I saw them and it was HOT) and liked them a lot and got some albums. That's how you do it! You don't listen to ONE SONG ON THE RADIO and get to call yourself a fan! Especially a song that's suddenly a single due to myspace popularity two years after the album comes out, for serious. Sure, people can't control how they hear about things, but if you like the band like the BAND, don't like the one song say you're a fan to get some sort of indie cred. (and speaking of my nonexistant indie cred, I had to look up that song. God, is Death Cab not the go-to IHAVEINDIECREDZOMGZ band or what).

Re: OHAI

[identity profile] postal152.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
LOL, I would definitely tell all of my friends to visit your AWESOME myspace page. If you even did that, being so utterly indie. XD

Haha, is Simple Plan the one with the song that goes, "You don't know what it's like, to be like me?" If so, I know who you're talking about. XD And military outfit of love, I can totally get behind that!

That's how you do it!

Um, yes. This, all the way. It's not even that I feel all superior to the lowly "fans" who just "don't understand" or appreciate a band, but I get disappointed, dangit, when I hear someone say they're a fan of a band I like and then they don't know any of the songs I'm talking about. When you say you're a fan of the band, I assume you mean like, you have all their albums, know them backwards and forwards, and have spent hours analyzing the meanings of them and appreciating the turns of phrase and intricacies of melody. Not "oh, I think I kinda know the tune to that one." :( Please be dorky like me, fans.

Ohhh, indie cred. *sigh* Actually, I think you're so right, to the point where now if you say you like DCFC it's kind of assumed you're just a wannabe. I DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW I FEEL ABOUT THEM ANYMORE. D:

[identity profile] oldstarnewshine.livejournal.com 2009-02-03 01:53 am (UTC)(link)
I'm so indie, I actually can't stand myspace. WHAT UP, WORLD.

This is what I mean! I honestly don't care how someone heard about a band, or how long they've been a fan, or if they prefer the new stuff to the old stuff or whatever. But if you're a fan, be a fan. Like the music. If you only like that one song, whatever, that's your perogative, but you are not a fan. Go fangirl somewhere else.

Death Cab I hadn't even heard of until they were already lame, so I feel I'm entirely allowed to like them because they're so lame they've come back around to indie. Or something. Because I have so much indie cred :]

Haha, HO BABY. I bow to you, Supreme Indie Goddess With Awesome Band Name. I'm going to get it embroidered on a shoulder bag. Vintage.

Exactly, exactly. ;)

so I feel I'm entirely allowed to like them because they're so lame they've come back around to indie.

LOLOL exactly, they're disliked by indie fans, therefore it's... anti-indie to like them? Did you just start your own counter-counter culture while my back was turned? :O
