Part of me feels like I really wouldn't have minded them keeping that, because it's not like it would've been the exact same circumstances.

At the same time, I read a book toward the end of last year about the rotation of the Earth gradually slowing to the point the Earth eventually stopped turning and all the fallout/human cost that'd cause due to parts of the globe being uninhabitable. And part way through the book I thought "wow, I was really NOT in the mood for this right now" - so I get why a huge studio would scrap it's plague idea. I wasn't upset by it (after all, I chose that book) but I definitely wasn't as into it as I would've been in other years.
