155. The growing number of the "omg you're sexist" allegations in the 00 fandom make me see red (mainly because I keep hearing them from /m/. Seriously, 4chan has forfeited it's right to comment on fandom misogyny at this point in my mind). You're not allowed to dislike any female character without getting pounced on, and god forbid if someone be displeased with the way a character's role has changed.

I mean, I can't imagine anyone would gut another fan for thinking, say, Louise's or Shirin's development this season have ruined perfectly amazing characters, yet saying the same about Soma/Marie only gets someone lynched. And while I like Marie, and if she's enjoying being a bridge bunny, hey cool. But I couldn't help but notice, she isn't chewing out anyone for letting her fight, Allelujah is. All I see is a woman being coddled by an overprotective boyfriend who chews out anyone who even touches her. And I honestly don't get why anyone could think a fan is sexist for being a little concerned that the show seems to neglect showing us whether or not Marie actually agrees with her boyfriend going out and bitching at people for letting Marie do something she felt was necessary.

Out of curiosity (and I think you raise a good point without descending into ranting), do you think people are lynched for not liking Soma/Marie's development? So far, I've noticed that 80% of the reactions are of people bashing Marie or lamenting the direction Soma's character has gone., and they're rarely attacked for it. I'm asking in all honesty, and not attacking your opinion here.

I haven't seen that on the Livejournal community, no - I don't think I've seen anyone's head bitten off for sexism on the LJ comm without feeling like there was a point behind it, but I have seen it on /m/ a few times. I probably should just ignore everything 4chan ever says involving gender issues (ugh, especially /cm/ and their gynophobia), but I'm pretty sure some of it wasn't trolling.

I take all angry rants on 4chan with a grain of salt, considering the contribution there. It's sad and ignorant, but I've learned to ignore it.

My complaint isn't even really specific to Gundam 00 fandom -- I saw it even more in Gurren Lagann fandom, for example -- but the thing that pushed me into making the secret was seeing various angry entries on TVTropes calling anyone who was displeased with Somarie's development a "faux feminist" and saying they should shut up.

But the people who have been bashing Marie generally don't identify as feminists of any kind. The people who've been concerned about Allelujah's chauvinism and the way the show has treated her, on the other hand...yeah.
