But to use a single element of sociopathy to make that kind of conclusion is a little misguided, IMO. There are other mental illnesses wherein sociopathic/anti-social behavior exists (such as a lack of remorse), but the person in question is not necessarily a 'sociopath'. Azula is too emotionally involved with others to be a 'textbook' sociopath.

Okay, I see your point - but how many "textbook" sociopaths are there, really? I guess what I mean is more that Azula does demonstrate several of the characteristics that are typically associated with sociopaths. (Sociopathy? Is that a word?)

With any mental illness, there are a certain number of criteria that a person has to fulfill in order to fit the bill. With narcissistic personality disorder, for example, there are nine criteria, and a person has to meet three of them in order to be diagnosed. So it's true that very few people suffering from any such illness will be a "textbook" case. I'd be interested to see how Azula measured up with if her behavior was assessed with those actual criteria in mind. But I am not nearly motivated enough to do it. XD

I RP Azula and spend too much time looking at psychology articles on Wikipedia anyway, so I might do it myself.

Being an armchair psychologist for characters is just as fun as being an armchair psychologist for real people, and considerably less obnoxious!

The two disorders have a lot in common, but the former has the added element of perfectionism, and holding yourself to very high personal standards. Azula is nothing if not meticulous, and lacks the impulsiveness of other antisocial disorders.

Yeah, I would too. But I am also way lazy. XD If I really wanted to, I guess I could go find the book from the psychology class I took last year, but... that would be a lot of work, haha. I would be interested to see what kind of social disorder she'd be diagnosed with, because she definitely has at least one.
