As someone who has a controversial age-gap ship with a character who is underage for the majority of canon, I very much feel this.

Like 95% of the people who ship it are evidently there for coercion, noncon, incest AUs, dark dynamics, and a bunch of the more "fringe-y" sort of kinks. And meanwhile I'm just there because I like the character's dynamic and like the idea of how they could play off each other romantically.

I know nothing about this show but they look the same age just like so many anime characters do. Lol. Like, the one dude in the secret just looks shorter than the other guy but if you told me they were in the same class, be it high school or college, and either or both were students or either or both were teachers, I'd believe it without a second thought because that's how worthless judging an anime character's age is - it's just so easy to say that they're either 15 or 51. Lmfao.

Well, Gojo (blindfold guy) looks notoriously young for his age. Like, his looks don't change at all from when he's 16 except for his clothing.

Don't know this show so I don't know if his looks not changing is due to something special/magical or whatever, but this also happens in real life. I'm older than 28 and I look exactly the same as I did when I was 15 except for my clothes.

I see some stuff that's like "well, why does aging him up a few years matter" or "ok we're saying this character is older now despite changing nothing see it doesn't change shit." I'm not really articulating it well, because when I see that stuff I just filter it out of my brain

I think there's also this idea that the age gap or the student/teacher thing is ALWAYS the appeal in those sort of ships when those are both things that squick me out unless done in very particular ways

Pretty sure people are saying those things in retaliation to antis claiming aging up is bad or obsessing over completely arbitrary ages for characters that really don't have canon ages to begin with.

Sesshoumaru/Rin from Inuyasha is almost exclusively shipped aged up and it was even before Yashahime. None of the shippers care. AkuRoku is an old school ship, neither characters have actual ages, antis latched onto this idea that Axel is "ten years older" than Roxas, but the reality is their "age" literally doesn't matter and changes nothing about their dynamic. No one will actually care if you personally consider Roxas "younger" and therefore age him up for whatever reason. That's personal preference. When antis throw tantrums about Sheith it's usually because of their small age gap. Aging Keith up a few years doesn't matter. Sheith shippers don't actually care if you'd prefer to ship them closer in age.
