Pet injury (dammit)

(Anonymous) 2021-05-22 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
I took some time off that I had to use up, so yay.

But I got home from work and found my pet disabled chicken who can't walk had managed to snap her upper beak off to the quick. It's happened before, and grown back, but she's so scrawny it's always iffy if she'll manage to eat again before she starves to death. She at least tried to eat tonight, but even making a gushy mash of her food with warm water, she couldn't figure out how to get food in her truncated beak.

I ended up giving her sugar water with electrolytes; she can still drink. Probably gonna buy some plain soy milk for her tomorrow. My vet closes at noon tomorrow, they're insanely busy these days and can't do same day appointments, and I don't know if the one who treats chickens is in.

What a great start to my staycation, sigh.

Poor thing! Hope you're able to get that appointment, or one soon enough.

I'm so sorry for the poor wee thing.

How in the *world* does she snap off her beak? Doesn't that hurt? Jeez!
Hope she weathers this!
